New Opportunities in VBA Development


The Virtual Basketball Association offers a challenging and rewarding working environment. We are the premiere organized basketball league in Second Live and we are an ever-growing organization within the SL Sports Industry, we are from time to time seeking new, vigorous individuals to join our organization in the areas of team management, development, coaching, playing and cheerleading.  The following details the currently available opportunities within the Development Department.



An exciting and stimulating opportunity awaits you with the Virtual Basketball Association, the premiere basketball league in the Second Life Sporting Industry!

We are seeking talented professionals who are motivated by the challenges and rewards of working for an organization that is continuously growing and expanding.

Duties and responsibilities of this position include:

  • Overall management of coaches, players & cheerleaders of the franchise team to include recruiting, reviewing applications and interviewing applicants, hiring and training
  • Ensuring team readiness for game play and competitions
  • Ensuring the proper conduct, appearance and performance of all team staff
  • Management of team member merchandise (uniforms)
  • Independently make or participate in making decisions regarding team events to build and brand the team

Position requirements include:

  • A genuine interest in virtual sports
  • Ability to interact professionally and effectively through verbal and written communication with all professional contacts
  • Ability to hire, train, develop, manage and motivate a team through effective management techniques
  • Independently prioritize and accomplish multiple management tasks within established time frames by effectively planning and managing workload, delegating work, and supervising, monitoring and directing subordinate team staff
  • Prior management experience or the equivalent in Second Life is preferred
  • A working knowledge of general business practices is highly desirable, as are strong organizational skills
  • An aptitude for demonstrating basic recruiting techniques and the ability to instruct others in their application
  • In addition to having a professional appearance and demeanor, the applicant must also demonstrate a keen and genuine interest in all aspects of VBA activities

The Eastern Conference Cheerleader Coordinator will oversee cheerleader programs, practices, event preparation at the Eastern Conference level within our league. This includes cheerleader recruitment and training, conference competitions and overall facilitating of recruitment and training to meet the needs of the conference and league in general. 

  • Sports enthusiast preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
  • Good organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team in order to accomplish objectives.
  • Experience/ability to organize and manage sports competitions.

Management Position Available with the Virtual Basketball Association (VBA)

Don Asadar, CEO/Commissioner of the Virtual Basketball Association (VBA) is seeking a Chief Operating Officer to complete his senior management team.  The VBA is SecondLife’s premier basketball league.  The ultimate candidate will be a sports enthusiast, personable, team leader and be able to provide direction as well as coordinate all activities of the VBA – reporting directly to the CEO /Commissioner.

OBJECTIVE:  The Chief Operating Officer (COO) will provide leadership and direction as well as coordinate all activities of the VBA in accordance with the goals and objectives of the organization, to safeguard and grow the assets of the VBA for future generations while providing sound returns for the team owners of the VBA.

The COO is invested with broad responsibilities and authority. Portions of these can be delegated in accordance
with the operational scheme of delegation approved by the CEO/Commissioner but not the overall responsibility of the sustainability and profitability of the business.  The COO will be the Chair of the Management Team of the VBA.

1. To be responsible for managing all relevant resources (i.e. people, finance and assets)
–    To develop and lead effective team working, which results in self managing teams with a sense of collective responsibility and purpose and which provides mutual support and learning both within and across teams.
–    To advise the CEO/Commissioner about future service needs of the VBA to ensure that all resources are adequately planned for and managed;
–    To contribute to the business plan, to develop corporate plans and ensure that departmental plans are carried out
–    Regularly review and monitor delegated budget responsibilities in accordance with the scheme of delegations to ensure that budget allocations are being used effectively and efficiently
–    To act as a role model by continuously developing own skills and knowledge in accordance with the VBA.

2. To provide appropriate Leadership for change:
–    To review business delivery to meet changing needs and demands and implement any necessary changes,
–    involving staff individually and in teams and encouraging and developing employees to operate flexibly to meet such changes;
–    To actively promote learning, innovation and change in a ‘can-do’ environment, recognizing and rewarding contributions and addressing development needs at team and individual level.

3. To work effectively with others:
–    To develop and sustain effective working relationships with all internal and external stakeholders and contacts;
–    To work in a collaborative and supportive way with peers to tackle cross cutting issues as directed by the CEO/Commissioner.

4. To ensure the effective management of performance including:
–    To contribute to the implementation of the VBA’s performance management framework
–    To proactively manage absenteeism firmly but fairly to ensure that absence reduction targets are achieved
–    To ensure appropriate arrangements for the management of risk and the promotion of a ‘no blame’ culture.

5. To contribute to developing and promoting a corporate focus:-
–    To lead on the contribution for the strategic direction of the VBA through the effective implementation of corporate policies, strategies and procedures.
–    To proactively contribute to and champion effective internal and external communications, ensuring that not only do employees understand their department but also the VBA’s aims and objectives (and are able to contribute effectively to achieving these).
–    To facilitate constructive and effective board, management and employees relationships.

6. To create value for owners and stakeholders:-
–    To promote and monitor owner care standards and ensure that these are communicated and understood at all levels
–    To identify, monitor and review owner needs and demands through regular feedback from players and frontline staff;
–    To liaise with others across the organization and externally to meet owners needs and demands


–    The Chief Operating Officer is accountable to the CEO/Commissioner as well as for internal relationships with direct reports and for external relationships with suppliers, customers, and the industry.
–    The conduct of these relationships may be delegated but not so far as to avoid the ultimate accountability for the morale of the employees, the image of the VBA or its standing in the community at large.
–    Chair the VBA’s Operations Management Team meeting.
–    Develop strategies and policies for the efficient and effective management for the organization.
–    Co-ordinate the election of members of Executive Management Board

Alpha Cold Arena, December 15, 2010 – Don Asadar, Chairman and Commissioner of the Virtual Basketball Assocation (VBA) announces its debut to the Second Life community. The VBA is the premier basketball league in Second Life consisting of 30 teams mirroring the rl league.

Games inworld, outworld and with NBA Live 2K11 will be played like a realistic game of basketball using a full court – complete with animations for the participants – shooting, slam dunking, dribbling and even stealing the ball from opponents. All scores for games played will be tracked and you will be able to review progress using the VBA website (, ultimately leading the East and West Conferences to the Championship at the Alpha Cold Arena!

The VBA wants you! We’re currently looking to fill roles in team management (General Managers, Coaches), Players and Cheerleaders. Now is your chance to play for the team of your dreams. Valentines Couples Tourney

February is always all about Valentines and warm feelings. For golfing couples, Green Acres Golf Course in the Romantic Times region of SL is featuring a week-long tourney from Februray 13 to 20.

Stop by the course today to practice, and pick up the notecard with details about the couples tourney. There is a 2,500 Linden prize for first place!

The landing point brings you in on the sunset coast of the region. You’ll find the tourney notecard sign right there. Then walk just a few steps to the first tee box to pick up your free golf clubs and the HUD to control them. The golf instructions are easy, and there are always other golfers around who are glad to answer any questions. The HUD will even give you first time instructions if you like, and there is a free golf dictionary too.

The course is always free to play for those who join the Green Acres Golf Group. And don’t worry if you just want to play golf rather than compete in the tourney. The course is always open for people who want to golf, and tournament play is never allowed to interfere with people who just want to play golf with their friends.

Everyone is always welcome at Green Acres Golf course. This is the largest golfing group in SL. It is the place for great golf in Second Life every day.
